This course will teach the basic skills, knowledge and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely.  The course goal is to Provide quality firearm training to law-abiding citizens.

Salem Firearm Safety is located in Salem, MA and specializes in training for persons interested in obtaining their Class A or Class B license to Carry (LTC) or Firearm Identification Card (FID). This safety course qualifies for the Massachusetts State Police Basic Handgun Safety Certificate that is required by most cities and towns in order to receive your firearms license.  Additionally, this course is accepted by other states if you are looking to obtain your non-resident License to Carry.

The Firearms Safety Course provides hands-on learning opportunities and focuses on the beginning shooter.  Class size is limited to provide the training required to make sure that you are confident in how to safely own and accurately shoot a pistol.  Unlike other safety courses, you will be totally involved in the class to help develop and build your skills in shooting.  Additionaly you will be guided on how to select and purchase your first pistol and how to continue to practice and enjoy the shooting sports. 

In this course you will learn:

  • The Rules for Safe Gun Handling.
  • The different types of handguns and ammunition.
  • The Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting.
  • How to properly clean your firearm.
  • How to select the right handgun.
  • Massachusetts laws regarding the proper transportation and storage of firearms.

The cost for the course is $125 which includes the NRA Basic Pistol handbook and all of your range fees and ammunition expenses.  Discounts for spouses/partners are offered. Students will receive the NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate AND the Massachusetts State Police Basic Firearms Safety Certificate for LTC. 

Classes are held at 16 Front Street, Salem, MA.  Courses can also be conducted for groups at your place of business or in your home upon request.
